Before we go further in hacking your cyber path, have you ever wondered what does a “Hacker” really mean?
Quick search on Google shows..
And on Merriam Webster..
It will be interesting to know and understand what this really meant, at least how I understand it.
1—from-curiosity-to-innovation
In the early days of computing, a hacker was someone who displayed an insatiable curiosity about technology.
These individuals were driven by a genuine passion to understand how systems worked, often spending countless hours exploring the intricacies of code and software.
Hacking, in its original form, was a creative pursuit—an artful manipulation of technology to push its boundaries.
2—the-pursuit-of-knowledge
As part of a hacker's character was the desire to expand knowledge and share discoveries with a community of like-minded individuals.
Hacking was synonymous with innovation, it was about finding clever solutions, optimizing processes, and making systems work more efficiently.
Hackers embraced challenges not for malicious intent, but to uncover hidden potentials within technology.
Hacking is not limited to technology though, this can be applied to almost anything around you.
You just have to be creative and curious enough.
It can be something about a food, how you get the same taste of a food from a restaurant using alternative ingredient or getting the right food that will fit your lifestyle.
It could be how you work your way in entering to a Cybersecurity role coming from a different industy.
Are you just going to follow everyone's path or are you going to create your own?
How are you going to be able to get that initial interview even if you do not have required certifications?
It can be something about mechanicals and machines where you are able to transform a junk engine into something useful. Hardware from different junks putting together becoming a new useful thing.
It can also be about how you handle life and hack your way in finding happiness and success or how you make things easier for you and those who are around you.
3—the-modern-hacker
In today's dynamic cybersecurity landscape, the term "hacker" has evolved into a multifaceted identity.
It encompasses not just the technical expertise to manipulate code and systems, but also a deep understanding of human behavior, social engineering, and the vulnerabilities inherent in our digital lives.
Hackers can be activists, educators, cybersecurity professionals, and even artists, wielding their skills to create positive change and drive innovation.
A hacker is different from a cybercriminal. Not all hackers are cybercriminals, but we can assume all cybercriminals are hackers.
4—redefining-the-term
To truly understand what a hacker means, we must transcend the stereotypes perpetuated by media and popular culture.
At its core, hacking is a mindset—a curiosity-driven pursuit of understanding and improvement.
It's a spectrum that ranges from ethical defenders safeguarding digital landscapes to those who exploit vulnerabilities for personal gain.
As technology continues to shape our world, the essence of hacking remains grounded in its origin.
The relentless pursuit of knowledge and the art of innovation.
